Announcing the Rapiscan TSA PM704

May 26, 2015

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the TSA PM704, our easily deployable walk-through monitor for temporary radiation inspection applications.

Allow us to introduce you to the latest addition to our top-of-the-line radiation detection portfolio.

Who can use it?

We anticipate that event security professionals and emergency responders will be the primary users. The PM704 meets U.S. and international inspection standards, as well as the U.S. FEMA standards for radiological emergency response.

Where will it be used?

The PM704 is designed for use in diverse environments, from outdoor arenas to indoor conference halls it is ready to provide enhanced security and screening for all major public events. With superior radiation detection performance for rapid inspection, the PM704 will be an invaluable tool for security operators in high-traffic venues like sporting stadiums or conventions, as well as areas that require rapid radiation detection, like emergency situations. It also serves as a backup pedestrian monitor when additional inspection capacity is needed.

What does it look like?

The unit consists of few components and requires no special tools for assembly, making it the ideal choice for emergency response situations. It also makes it perfect for non-permanent, construction-free installations. The PM704 was designed for quick and efficient assembly. The unit features pillars on each side that house gamma detectors for rapid pedestrian scanning.

The attractive, IP65 environmental compliant design is also rugged enough to withstand many repeated uses with minimum maintenance. When the PM704 is not in use the device is stored in a protective, portable case.

How does it work?

The PM704 does not require any special tools for assembly and is quickly assembled for immediate use in a matter of minutes.

Once the unit is operational, a green light signals to the user that they may walk through the detector. The pillars on each side of the unit house large collimated PVT gamma detectors that rapidly scan pedestrians. If an unusually high amount of radiation is detected, the PM704 sounds an alarm with flashing lights to alert operators. We are proud to report that the PM704 has a very low false alarm rate, typically less than 1 in 1,000 passages.

Each product in Rapiscan’s radiation detection line, including the PM704, addresses the developing need to proactively monitor and locate radiation sources. We are proud to design hardware and software that integrate efficiently across threat detection solutions, to create next-generation checkpoints that are as safe as possible.
