‘Super’ Security Screening

The big game is just days away and Super Bowl madness has spread not only throughout Indianapolis but also across the United States. It’s not all fun and games though – as with any event of this magnitude, countless hours are put into securing the venue against all possible threats.

To secure an event like the Super Bowl, screening systems need to target the entire ecosystem of security threats. Everything from conventional weapons like guns and knives to a variety of explosives and even radioactive and nuclear materials need to be a focus. While a typical NFL game may not be a target for items such as a dirty bomb, a more globally watched event like the Super Bowl might be – and screeners need to utilize the latest security solutions to prepare for all scenarios, particularly when it comes to watching over cargo entering the venue.

One new product on the market (and offered by Rapiscan), that will target cargo threats across the board, is integrated radiation-nuclear detection with X-ray screening. Essentially, this allows stadiums to screen packages and materials brought in by vendors for conventional and nuclear threats at the same time, reducing the footprint of a checkpoint without sacrificing security.
