Rapiscan Systems is highly committed to the sustainability of our environment, and as such it takes very seriously its commitment to ensuring wherever possible that strategies and execution of duty are completed with this in mind. Rapiscan Systems sees this challenge not as a “one off strategy” but as a continual rolling process which is adhered to across all of its global facilities.
A key contributor to on-going reduced carbon requires dedicated design effort to all of our products to produce improved imaging for x-ray interpretation but by using less power. We employ design effort to accomplish this and design in house all of our x-ray generators.
As an example of this, our engineering team has developed the 620DV AT aviation screening system. The 620DV AT system was designed to meet international aviation security requirements yet uses fewer generators and consumes less power than other legacy systems.
Air travel is kept to the absolute minimum by utilization of conference calls kept to voice communication only and disciplined to a clearly defined electronic agenda. Public transport is also encouraged for any travel necessary within the UK and mainland Europe, with preferred choice being railway.
Paper waste is used as scrap paper before any surplus is sent for recycling. Paper usage is kept to a minimum by storing all information electronically (where possible).
Paper cups for vending machines have been minimized by using employees own cups and as such reducing the waste.
The majority of waste is recycled by use of different colour bins, each dedicated to specific items of waste. This has been adopted by all of our facilities.
All of our freighting is done with the use of reusable freight wooden containers which we take total ownership for and insist that nothing is left to waste, bringing empty crates back to our facilities for re use.
Local and Sustainable Materials
Our key component strategy establishes local supply chain where possible for all mechanical, electrical, electronics supply thus minimizing road transportation necessities. For Rapiscan Systems freight movements, local companies are employed to minimize the unnecessary use of road transportation to collect and delivery to our facilities. All supply chain is vetted for suitability and must achieve objective sustainable proof prior to their being appointed.
Over the last twenty years Rapiscan Systems has grown its business through engagement of local community and is extremely proud to have been awarded “Queens Award for Export” in 2008 and “Queen’s Award for Innovation” in 2012.

Rapiscan Systems is committed to diversity of culture and heritage, being a solutions provider and partner to most countries of the world. As such exhaustive focus is given to marrying effort both in terms of deliverables and local employment as well as local community engagement within the respective regions.
