Rapiscan VEDS GE Series

The Rapiscan VEDS GE Series is a neutron inspection system that automatically detects the presence of explosives and drugs in cargo. It uses proprietary Rapiscan Systems technology to detect commercial, military and most homemade explosives. As an option, chlorinated Class A drugs, such as cocaine hydrochloride and heroin hydrochloride, can also be found. It is designed to detect significant quantities of these threats, such as commonly used in a vehicle bomb or hidden in cargo.

The easy-to-use unit is configured as a gantry system with two VEDS heads moving along tracks. The head contains the Electronic Neutron Generator (ENG) neutron source. An unoccupied parked vehicle is inspected as the heads move past it, so that both sides are inspected simultaneously. An option is available for a single-headed configuration, which inspects the vehicle from one side at a time. When this “sweep” scan is completed, the likely location of a threat material is automatically indicated on the simple graphical user interface (GUI) to the operator in the control room. A spot scan of the suspicious area is then performed to confirm the presence of the threat. The Rapiscan VEDS GE Series unit can easily be disassembled and moved to a different inspection site.
