Rapiscan Attends AAAE Summit

December 15, 2011

This is my second post from the AAAE Summit, which has been an excellent program thus far. Today, Peter Kant, Rapiscan’s EVP of Global Government Affairs, took part in a panel discussion on future trends in technology. Pete made a number of points that I think are worth repeating – and not just because he is my boss!

·      The people who attend AAAE are key to driving technology to better solutions. Airports can help technology vendors by driving them to more harmonized equipment standards. This could, for example, help with making similar systems easier to operate and train on and give vendors a better understanding upfront of customer requirements.

·      There is a lot that can be done today to improve aviation security by combining multiple existing technologies. In other words, by using technologies such as advanced technology x-ray scanners that use sophisticated detection software in conjunction with metal detectors or another technology, we can enable more dynamic screening of customers. This will in turn support the transition to more risk based screening.

·      Security technology vendors have formed the Security Manufacturer’s Coalition – this new organization will not only create a forum for technology companies to communicate common concerns and requirements to customers such as TSA, it will also give airports and associations like AAAE a single point of contact to drive technology requirements.

Overall the panel had numerous thoughtful points on the future of aviation technology and the summit as a whole was a successful event with insightful takeaways for those who attended.
