Dutch Customs Unveils High Speed Rail Scanner
February 16, 2012
Breakthrough technology is an overused expression. But today, outside Rotterdam, Dutch Customs and Rapiscan unveiled a true breakthrough in supply chain security: the Rapiscan Eagle R60 HS, world’s first high speed rail scanner, capable of scanning rail containers moving up to 60 kilometers per hour. Why is this such a big deal? Because for a port like Rotterdam, the fourth largest in the world, customs organizations need to be able to screen cargo without slowing down the flow of commerce. Today’s unveiling event was the culmination of a year-long collaboration between Dutch Customs and Rapiscan, with a VIP guest list that included senior leadership from Dutch Customs, the Dutch Secretary of State and the World Customs Organization. As one of the speakers at the event commented, “High speed cargo inspection is the new frontier for supply chain security – and we expect to see many high speed Rail Scanners deployed in the next few years.”
