I have an old x-ray unit. How do I dispose of it properly?
Step 1. The generator, computer, monitor, cables and all printed circuit boards should be removed, leaving the metalwork and curtains.
Step 2. The metalwork and the curtains both contain lead and should be collected by a registered waste management company or metals scrapper who can take such materials in compliance with the applicable local, state, and federal regulations, or returned to the supplier for correct disposal.
Step 3. The diodes from the diode array boards should be removed and collected by a registered waste management company in compliance with the applicable local, state, and federal regulations, or returned to the supplier for correct disposal. (Note, in California, all electronic equipment, including circuit boards can often be disposed of via an electronic products recycler.)
Step 4. The generator should be returned to Rapiscan Systems for disassembly and disposal.
Step 5. All the electronic components (monitor, printed circuit boards, computer, wiring harnesses, etc.) should be collected by a registered waste management company (or electronic products recycler) in compliance with the applicable local, state, and federal regulations, or returned to the supplier for correct disposal.
