Rapiscan Systems Receives IDIQ Contract Valued at Up to $248 Million from U.S. Army for Entry Control Point Non-Intrusive Inspection Solutions
Contract combines Rapiscan’s advanced personnel screening and vehicle inspection technologies
Rapiscan Systems, a leading global provider of security inspection systems, announced today that it has been awarded a three-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at up to approximately $248 million from the U.S. Army for Entry Control Point Non-Intrusive Inspection. Under the contract, the U.S. Army may purchase multiple products and services, including Rapiscan’s Eagle Cargo and Vehicle Inspection products and Rapiscan’s Secure 1000 personnel screening solution.
Rapiscan will be a prime contractor for the IDIQ, which is part of the U.S. Army’s Joint Program Office for Chemical and Biological Defense, Force Protection Systems. The IDIQ will be used to help fulfill the U.S. Army’s global force protection requirements. Rapiscan is one of seven awardees for this IDIQ contract.
The Chairman and CEO of OSI Systems, Rapiscan Systems’ parent company, Deepak Chopra, stated: “We are pleased to support the U.S. Army with our advanced personnel screening and Cargo and Vehicle Inspection products. This contract will allow us to demonstrate how Rapiscan solutions can be deployed in even the most demanding environments to provide comprehensive screening capabilities.”
Rapiscan Systems’ industry leading Eagle® Cargo and Vehicle Inspection product line uses proprietary high-energy X-ray technology to provide comprehensive and efficient detection of contraband, weapons, narcotics and other potential threat items in a wide range of containers and vehicles. Rapiscan Systems’ Secure 1000 personnel screening system is designed to help screeners detect potential threat objects concealed on passengers. Using proprietary imaging technology and image processing software, the system offers advantages over alternatives such as metal detectors and hand searches, because it can rapidly help screeners comprehensively detect non-metallic threats and explosives, as well as metal objects.
Rapiscan Systems President, Ajay Mehra commented: “This significant contract award builds on our substantial experience supporting the U.S. DOD and underscores that sophisticated customers such as the U.S. Army are increasingly looking for Rapiscan to not only provide great technology, but also provide solutions that address their most important operational and security requirements.”
