Rapiscan Systems, a global provider of security inspection solutions, today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to provide cargo and parcel screening operations for the new World Trade Center. Under the $15 million contract, Rapiscan will implement a comprehensive solution and provide security system design, technology and construction management.

"We are very pleased that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has selected Rapiscan Systems to implement security screening systems for the new World Trade Center," said Deepak Chopra, CEO of OSI Systems, Rapiscan’s parent company. The new World Trade Center will utilize Rapiscan's Eagle® series of high-energy cargo inspection equipment, which use Rapiscan's proprietary transmission X-ray technology to detect potential threats. The Rapiscan Eagle inspection equipment will also include integrated radiation and nuclear detection capabilities, allowing Rapiscan to provide a complete screening solution to address all possible cargo-borne threats.

Ajay Mehra, President of Rapiscan Systems, commented: "We believe that this important contract demonstrates that when customers have critical security screening requirements, Rapiscan is uniquely well positioned to support them, given our ability to integrate, manage and support complex screening systems in challenging operational conditions."
