X-ray computed tomography (CT) is a radiographic inspection method that uses a computer to reconstruct an image from cross-sectional views through an object. The resulting image accurately represents the internal and external geometry of the object, unlike conventional X-ray techniques, in which features are superimposed onto a single plane. Objects of any shape or material can be inspected without harming, modifying or contacting them. External and internal dimensions can be accurately measured. CT can also provide information about the density and composition of material in the object. Therefore, CT can be used for inspection, to detect anomalies; for metrology, to confirm dimensions; and for reverse engineering, to reproduce identical parts. Rapiscan Systems is the leading US supplier of high-energy X-ray imaging systems and technology for their application. Rapiscan Systems has been developing CT systems since 1979 and, in 1983, delivered the first CT system designed for industrial use. Since 1988, every high-energy CT system delivered in the US has been built by Rapiscan Systems. These CT systems provide unmatched capabilities for inspection, metrology and reverse engineering. |

Rapiscan Systems has developed the Konoscope™ series of volumetric computed tomography (CT) imaging systems. Unlike conventional CT instruments, which obtain data one slice at time, volumetric (or “cone-beam”) systems obtain data over an entire object volume at one time. This enormously speeds up the process of imaging complete objects, or segments of objects and provides data with the same spatial resolution in all directions. Our latest development is the Konoscope Micro-CT system which obtains very high-resolution images over centimeter-sized objects.
Rapiscan Systems designs and manufactures CT systems to meet customer inspection requirements. Both 2-D and 3-D CT systems are available in various X-ray energies and sizes for inspecting a range of object sizes and materials. Systems are designed for production and laboratory use. Representative features of Rapiscan Systems CT systems are listed below. Rapiscan Systems' state-of-the-art industrial CT systems include the ICT 1500, which can be configured to inspect parts with a wide range of sizes and densities. Rapiscan Systems also offers the ICT 2500, which utilizes a 15-MV linear accelerator for inspecting very large objects. |
